The Flexible Office
Flexibility is just as positive a term as it is an elastic concept, promising a world of possibilities only to fail all too often because of the users' habits. Flexibility, if planned to the right extent is, however, essential for sustainable buildings. Particularly in the field of office space planning, there is much talk about flexible spaces, where they are considered a necessity to prepare for changes in the world of work. But what does a flexible office look like and how has the way we work changed with the emergence of new work equipment?
Of course, flexibility is not only limited to the spatial environment in an office, but can also be found in the areas of personnel management, the organisation of working time, and company-internal innovation. To give you an idea of the bigger picture, we selected four experts from the fields of anthropology, music, sports and computer technology and talked to them about flexibility in their professional environment. It shows that, despite the apparent distance of these professions from the classic office workplace, interesting connections can be made, and practical conclusions drawn for one's own office. All that’s required is to keep an open mind!
